The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) issued a statement on Saturday challenging Ismaila Mustapha, also known as Mompha, to substantiate his allegations of corruption against its officers. According to EFCC spokesman Dele Oyewale, the commission dismissed Mompha's claims as baseless and aimed at deflecting attention from his ongoing criminal trial for money laundering and related charges.
The EFCC expressed concern over Mompha's attempt to engage in a media campaign against the commission instead of focusing on his legal defense. It emphasized its commitment to integrity and vowed to continue pursuing Mompha's case diligently despite his efforts to undermine public confidence in the agency.
In response, the EFCC's Executive Chairman, Ola Olukoyede, directed Mompha to provide concrete evidence supporting his accusations of corruption within the commission. The EFCC asserted that Mompha's unsubstantiated claims and derogatory remarks against the agency, including labeling it a "useless agency," would not be tolerated.
The statement concluded by urging the public to disregard Mompha's allegations and emphasized that he should concentrate on his defense in court rather than attempting to discredit the EFCC's professionalism and integrity.
