Breaking News: NDCV Condemns MOSOP's Call for Removal of NDDC Managing Director

 

Port Harcourt, Nigeria — The Niger Delta Coalition Vision (NDCV) has strongly denounced recent demands by the Movement for the Survival of Ogoni People (MOSOP) for the removal of Chief Samuel Ogbuku, the managing director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC). This condemnation follows a statement made by MOSOP in various media outlets, alleging neglect of their involvement in the recent Niger Delta Stakeholders Summit.

In a statement signed by key members including HRH Alaowei Amawari, Prince Victor Oleh, Engr. Donald Benneth, Hon. Lovina Charles, Chief Simeipiri Kiki, and Chike Chile, the NDCV criticized MOSOP’s call as “regrettable, reckless, and capable of inciting ethnic tension in the Niger Delta region.”

NDCV expressed concern over the growing trend of provocative press statements in the region, emphasizing that such issues should be addressed through dialogue and constructive engagement. They reminded MOSOP that the Ogoni cause is part of the broader struggle for justice in the Niger Delta, highlighting the region's shared history of suffering due to oil industry activities.

The statement urged MOSOP to reconsider their stance and to work collaboratively towards resolving broader issues, such as the cessation of oil extraction from Ogoni land for nearly three decades. NDCV warned against actions that could disrupt peace and called on the government and the public to disregard MOSOP’s demands.

NDCV also praised the current NDDC leadership for its effective management and successful organization of the 2024 Niger Delta Stakeholders Summit, the first of its kind in the region.
