In a recent teaser for the upcoming episode of ‘The Honest Bunch’ podcast, popular comedian and skit maker Denilson Igwe has publicly aired grievances regarding his split from former collaborator Mark Angel. Igwe's revelations center on claims of financial dishonesty and lack of transparency regarding the revenue from their collaborative comedy projects.
According to Igwe, the fallout with Mark Angel stemmed from his discovery that he had been unfairly compensated for his role in the venture. Igwe alleged that he was instrumental in starting Mark Angel Comedy, including filming content and managing the early stages of their Facebook page. However, he claimed he was kept in the dark about the page's monetization and received no financial compensation from the earnings until 2016.
Igwe further accused Mark Angel of underpaying crew members, specifically mentioning that Emmanuella, a prominent star in their comedy skits, was paid only N20,000 per month despite the fact that the Facebook page was reportedly generating $160,000 in monthly revenue. It wasn’t until Mark Angel purchased a car in 2014 and subsequently gave Igwe N50,000 in 2016 that Igwe became aware of the significant profits being made.
“I was the one who started Mark Angel Comedy,” Igwe said in the podcast teaser. “I was learning camera work and filming all the content. Mark suggested we start a Facebook page, but I was unaware when it got monetized. I never received a dime from the revenue until 2016.”
As of now, Mark Angel has not responded to Igwe’s allegations. The drama adds to the ongoing discourse about fair compensation and transparency within the entertainment industry.
