FBI Director Questions Cause of Injury in Trump Assassination Attempt

During a House Judiciary Committee hearing on Wednesday, FBI Director Christopher Wray raised uncertainties regarding the nature of the injury sustained by former President Donald Trump during an assassination attempt earlier this month.

Wray indicated that it remains unclear whether Trump was struck by a bullet or shrapnel during the shooting, which occurred at a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. The incident, involving a shooter positioned on a roof, resulted in one death and several injuries among the crowd.

“There’s some question about whether or not it’s a bullet or shrapnel that hit his ear,” Wray said. “As I sit here right now, I don’t know whether that bullet, in addition to causing the grazing, could have also landed somewhere else.”

In the aftermath of the shooting, Trump described the injury on Truth Social, stating that he was hit by a bullet that pierced the upper part of his right ear. He recounted hearing a "whizzing sound" and feeling the bullet penetrate his skin, leading to significant bleeding.

Despite Trump's account, there has been no public statement from the medical professionals who treated him, as Trump has not permitted them to discuss his condition openly. The former president did, however, release a recovery memo from Ronny Jackson, his former White House physician and current Republican congressman.

Wray's testimony also revealed that the shooter, who was killed by government snipers, had previously searched online for information about the 1963 assassination of President John F. Kennedy. This detail has added to the complexity of the investigation into the attack on Trump.
