A Federal High Court in Ibadan has sentenced Abiodun Oguntosin and Rasaq Agboola to four years in prison each for aiding and abetting terrorism.
The men were charged with aiding and abetting terrorism and possession of live ammunition. Justice Ekerete Akpan convicted them based on compelling evidence presented by the Department of State Services (DSS) and their guilty pleas.
"I hope the convicts have learned their lessons the hard way. The court will apply the full force of the law if you are caught again," Justice Akpan stated. "To serve as a deterrent to others, each of the convicts is sentenced to four years in prison. The live ammunition and trucks found in their possession are forfeited to the Federal Government of Nigeria through the DSS."
Earlier, DSS Prosecution Counsel T.A. Nurudeen informed the court that Oguntosin and Agboola were apprehended on April 8 in Palupo-Itesiwaju, Akure South, Ondo State, while transporting 60,250 rounds of 32mm cartridges and 149mm Dina Gaza and Red Star brand cartridges in two trucks.
Nurudeen noted that their actions violated Section 20 of the Terrorism (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022.
