Kano State High Court Declines Bench Warrant Against Former Governor Ganduje and Others

Justice Aminu Adamu Aliyu of the Kano State High Court has ruled against issuing a bench warrant for former Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, his wife, and six others in a case involving alleged fund diversion.

Justice Aliyu cited the political tension in the state as a key reason for her decision, expressing concern that the court's actions could be exploited by some individuals to incite unrest. Consequently, she dismissed the request for a bench warrant against the former governor and his wife.

Despite acknowledging that the defendants had been served through substituted means and failed to appear in court, the judge stated that the trial would proceed even in their absence.

Earlier, the prosecution counsel, led by Adeola Adediyo SAN, had petitioned the court to issue a bench warrant for Ganduje, his wife, and the other defendants.
