Kylian Mbappe is set to be officially introduced as a Real Madrid player at the Santiago Bernabeu stadium next Tuesday, as announced by the Spanish club.
The announcement was made less than 24 hours after Mbappe, formerly of Paris Saint-Germain, and the French national team were eliminated by Spain in the Euro 2024 semi-finals. Mbappe, who will don the number 9 jersey, will be presented at the Bernabeu at noon (1000 GMT) on Tuesday. Real Madrid president Florentino Perez will welcome him for the signing of his five-year contract, the club revealed on Wednesday.
The French captain experienced a challenging Euro 2024, having broken his nose in the opening match against Austria. He also missed a crucial opportunity to equalize in the 2-1 defeat to Spain on Tuesday.
Mbappe is expected to make his competitive debut for the Spanish and European champions during their La Liga opener against Real Mallorca on the weekend of August 17/18. His first appearance at the Bernabeu will come a week later when Madrid hosts newly promoted Real Valladolid.
Mbappe joins Real Madrid as a free agent, with an annual salary reportedly set at 15 million euros ($16.2 million) and additional bonuses exceeding 100 million euros for his move to the Spanish capital.
