North Carolina Teenager Makes Aviation History

Ryan Garner, a 17-year-old from North Carolina, has recently achieved a significant milestone in aviation, becoming the youngest Black person ever and the first African American from Concord to earn his private pilot's license at Goose Creek Airport.

In an interview with Channel 9, Garner shared that his initial career aspirations did not involve becoming a pilot. "I actually never wanted to be a pilot at first," he explained. "I wanted to be a grounds crew member that would bring in the planes or marshal them in. I got talking with a Delta pilot about flight school, and that’s how I got into it."

Garner's achievement has garnered attention and recognition from his community. The City of Concord honored him last week by presenting him with an official proclamation. Mayor Dusch personally presented Garner with the proclamation, highlighting his dedication and accomplishment in aviation.

Achieving his private pilot's license at such a young age not only showcases Garner's passion and commitment but also serves as an inspiration to other young individuals interested in aviation. His achievement is particularly notable as he breaks barriers in the field, setting an example for diversity and inclusion in aviation.

As Garner continues to pursue his aviation career, his achievement stands as a testament to perseverance and dedication in reaching one's goals, regardless of age or background. His story serves as a beacon of hope and encouragement for aspiring pilots, especially those from underrepresented communities, proving that with determination and support, dreams can indeed take flight.
