The Oba of Benin, Omo N’Oba N’Edo, Oba Ewuare II, has called on youths across Nigeria to postpone their planned nationwide protest against economic hardship, scheduled for August 1, 2024. The protest is set to occur simultaneously in all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), aiming to highlight the worsening conditions faced by citizens and urge action from both federal and state governments.
In a statement released on Wednesday, endorsed by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Osaigbovo Iguobaro, Oba Ewuare II appealed to the youth to reconsider their plans. He urged them to allow the federal government more time to implement its economic policies, which are anticipated to address the current economic challenges.
Oba Ewuare II acknowledged the difficulties Nigerians are experiencing but emphasized that some short-term hardship may be necessary for the government to effectively carry out its economic and security reforms. He expressed hope that patience and understanding would lead to positive changes in the long run.
