President Bola Tinubu has been re-elected as the Chairman of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).
Tinubu's re-election took place during the 65th Ordinary Session of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government, held at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Sunday.
In his address at the event, Tinubu stressed the importance of addressing insecurity and stabilizing the region by implementing the recommendations made by ministers of defense.
“To counter insecurity and stabilize the region, the recommendations set forth by our ministers of defense must be met,” he stated.
“As we operationalize the ECOWAS Standby Force (ESF) to combat terrorism, it is crucial to acknowledge that this initiative requires not only strong political will but also significant financial resources,” Tinubu added.
He emphasized the need for member states to make additional commitments to provide resources necessary for regional stabilization.
