20-Year-Old Nigerian Footballer Paul Julius Dies in Tragic Car Accident in Cyprus

 







A 20-year-old Nigerian footballer, Paul Julius Goewam, tragically lost his life in a car accident in Cyprus.

According to police reports, the accident occurred around 6:30 a.m. on Tuesday, August 20, 2024, on the Paralimni-Protaras road near Pernera. Julius was driving when his car collided with an oncoming vehicle.

Julius, a talented striker from Plateau State, had recently joined Cypriot club Enosis Neon Paralimni, just three weeks after transferring from the Egyptian side El Gaish.

Enosis Neon Paralimni FC expressed their profound sorrow in a statement, mourning the loss of their player. The club acknowledged Julius's resilience and determination, despite the challenges he faced in his life and career.

“It is with deep sadness and pain that we express our sincere condolences on the unexpected loss of our footballer Paul Julius,” the club's statement read. “The tragic news of his death has shocked us all. Despite the hardships and sufferings he faced to join our family, he remained steadfast and determined to fulfill his goals. His memory will live on in our hearts, and his absence will be deeply felt. We stand with his family and loved ones during this difficult time. May he rest in peace.”

The 74-year-old driver of the other vehicle involved in the crash is currently receiving treatment at a hospital but is not in critical condition.

Authorities are appealing for any witnesses to come forward as the Famagusta Traffic Department continues its investigation into the incident.
