Chief of Defence Staff Warns Against Violence Amidst Protests

In response to recent protests against economic hardship in Nigeria, Chief of Defence Staff General Christopher Musa has urged demonstrators to avoid actions that could lead to chaos and destruction. Addressing the nation, General Musa emphasized that the Armed Forces and security agencies are prepared to take decisive action to maintain order and prevent further damage.

General Musa expressed concern over the escalation of protests, noting that what initially began as peaceful demonstrations were overtaken by individuals intent on causing harm. “We have witnessed the extent of destruction on Thursday, and if such actions continue, the situation could worsen,” he stated.

The General reiterated the government’s commitment to addressing economic challenges and ensuring public safety while stressing the importance of distinguishing between legitimate protests and criminal activities. He acknowledged the professional conduct of the Nigerian police and other security agencies, highlighting their efforts to manage the situation effectively.

“The government has demonstrated its dedication to allowing freedom of association, but we will not tolerate the destruction of our country,” General Musa warned. He assured that any individuals found inciting violence or engaging in criminal behavior will face legal consequences.

He further reassured Nigerians that efforts are underway to improve economic conditions and security. General Musa shared recent initiatives, including his visit to the Niger Delta to boost production and funding for the economy.

“The government is actively working on policies to address the economic and security challenges we face,” he said. “I urge all Nigerians to support these efforts and understand that while grievances are valid, there is a distinction between peaceful protest and criminality.”

General Musa called for unity and patience, encouraging citizens to work together for the betterment of the country as Nigeria navigates these challenging times.
