D’Tigress Make History with Quarter-Final Spot at 2024 Paris Olympics

On Sunday, August 4, Nigeria’s D’Tigress achieved a historic milestone by defeating Canada 79-70 in their final group game of the women’s basketball tournament at the Pierre Mauroy Stadium in Lille, France. This victory marks Nigeria’s first-ever advancement to the quarter-finals of the Olympic basketball tournament.

The game started with both teams evenly matched, ending the first quarter tied 18-18. Canada edged ahead in the second quarter, taking a slim 41-37 lead into halftime. However, the momentum shifted dramatically in the third quarter as Nigeria's defense stifled the Canadian offense, allowing them to score only five points.

D’Tigress' strong performance in the final quarter secured their historic win. They outpaced Canada with a decisive 79-70 victory, topping their group with five classification points. Their journey through the group stage included a victory over Australia and a tough loss to France, who still have a match against Australia later in the day.

This remarkable achievement not only highlights the team's resilience but also establishes Nigeria as a formidable contender in women's basketball on the Olympic stage. The quarter-final appearance is a significant breakthrough for D’Tigress, underscoring their progress and potential in international competitions.
