Jennifer Lopez has officially filed for divorce from actor Ben Affleck, citing irreconcilable differences as the reason for the split. The filing comes exactly two years after their highly-publicized wedding in Georgia, with Lopez listing April 26 as their separation date.
Court documents, obtained by Page Six, reveal that Lopez has requested no spousal support for either party. Additionally, she has asked the court to restore her legal name to Jennifer Lynn Lopez from Jennifer Lynn Affleck, marking a formal end to their marriage.
Lopez and Affleck, who rekindled their romance and wed in July 2022, drew significant media attention. Lopez had previously expressed pride in adopting Affleck’s surname, calling it a "romantic" and "traditional" gesture. However, she now seeks to return to her maiden name, reflecting their separation.
In a November 2022 interview with Vogue, Lopez had spoken positively about the name change, although she had never considered having Affleck adopt her last name, which she felt lacked the same romantic appeal.
The couple’s divorce raises questions about the division of their assets, particularly since they reportedly did not have a prenuptial agreement. This could potentially lead to a legal dispute over their considerable assets, including their $68 million Beverly Hills mansion, which they recently listed for sale.
Lopez and Affleck's relationship, which first captured public attention in the early 2000s before their recent reunion, now concludes with this high-profile separation.
