Shaboozey Sues Former Record Label Kreshendo Entertainment Over Songwriting Rights

Nigerian-born American country singer Shaboozey is taking legal action against his former record label, Kreshendo Entertainment, seeking to reclaim control over his songwriting rights. The singer, best known for his hit track "A Bar Song (Tipsy)," has filed a lawsuit alleging that Kreshendo is hindering his efforts to regain his publishing rights, despite a contractual provision that permits him to do so.

Shaboozey, who has been affiliated with Kreshendo since 2016, ended his publishing agreement with the label in 2019. Following the termination, he negotiated directly with music publisher Warner-Tamerlane. According to Shaboozey, his contract allows him to repurchase his publishing rights by paying 110% of the remaining unrecouped advances to Warner-Tamerlane.

The artist claims that when he sought information from Warner-Tamerlane to calculate the amount owed, the company refused to provide the necessary details. Shaboozey suspects that Kreshendo may have influenced Warner-Tamerlane's refusal, potentially to prevent him from regaining control of his rights.

Additionally, Shaboozey is suing Kreshendo for allegedly releasing several of his songs without his permission after the termination of their contract. He is seeking to restore full control over his music and challenge what he describes as unfair practices by his former label.
