Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), has addressed concerns raised by a social media user regarding a video in which former militant leader Asari Dokubo allegedly threatened Igbos with a firearm during a live session.
The social media user, identified as Queen Bee on X (formerly Twitter), had called on Dabiri-Erewa to address the situation, emphasizing the gravity of the threats made in the video.
In her response, Dabiri-Erewa explained that her role primarily involves handling issues related to Nigerians living abroad. She stated, "Did it happen in the diaspora? That’s my job schedule. Check @nidcom_gov website for more on our job schedule. Let me know of more cases like Amaka's. We will deal with them appropriately."
Dabiri-Erewa's response highlighted that her commission's mandate does not extend to matters occurring within Nigeria but rather focuses on the Nigerian diaspora.
