The Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) in Pakistan has detained a Nigerian national at Lahore International Airport on charges of drug smuggling.
The suspect, who arrived from Nigeria via Dubai, was apprehended with 38 capsules containing cocaine concealed in his stomach. The total weight of the cocaine recovered from the capsules amounted to 608 grams.
In a statement released on August 29, 2024, the ANF spokesperson underscored the growing issue of drug smuggling involving foreign nationals. The arrest follows a troubling trend observed in recent years.
In 2023, Pakistani authorities arrested 10 Nigerian nationals in connection with similar drug smuggling offenses, resulting in the seizure of 4.811 kilograms of narcotics. This year alone, ANF has conducted seven operations, leading to the detention of eight Nigerian individuals and the recovery of 11.420 kilograms of drugs.
The arrested individual is facing charges under the Anti-Narcotics Act, and investigations into the case are ongoing.
