The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has carried out successful airstrikes targeting terrorists in the Jubillaram area near Lake Chad, resulting in the elimination of several militants. The operation, conducted in the southern Tumbuns region, underscores NAF’s ongoing commitment to neutralizing threats to national security.
Air Vice Marshal Edward Gabkwet, Director of Public Relations and Information for NAF, disclosed the development in a statement on Thursday in Abuja. He explained that the strikes were facilitated by recent heavy rainfall, which forced the terrorists to relocate to higher ground, making them more vulnerable to air operations.
The airstrikes were part of a coordinated interdiction mission aimed at dismantling terrorist hideouts. Gabkwet stated, “Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) missions identified terrorists sheltering in makeshift structures with their salvaged belongings. This intelligence allowed NAF to execute precision strikes, destroying the encampments and neutralizing several militants.”
Gabkwet emphasized that the operation demonstrated NAF’s unwavering resolve to protect the nation from terrorist activities. “The excessive rainfall and swampy terrain inadvertently exposed the terrorists, providing NAF with a critical opportunity to deliver a decisive blow,” he said. “The airstrike has disrupted the terrorists’ operations, significantly reducing their ability to launch attacks, particularly on civilian targets.”
The operation aligns with directives from the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, who recently instructed all Air Component Commanders to intensify their efforts against terrorist and criminal groups. The success of the Jubillaram airstrike is seen as a direct outcome of this strategic directive, highlighting the effectiveness of NAF’s renewed focus on combating insurgency in the region.
