Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has announced a reduction in the number of working days for civil servants to ease transportation costs. According to a statement by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, on Tuesday, September 24, the Governor also extended the payment of palliatives for an additional two months until the new minimum wage is implemented.
Civil servants in grade levels 01-10 will now work three days a week, while those in grade levels 12-17 will have a four-day workweek. However, workers in essential services such as medical staff, security personnel, political office holders, and accounting officers are excluded from this new arrangement.
The statement emphasized that the decision was made to address the financial burden caused by rising transportation costs. It also mentioned that each government department and agency will manage the specific workdays of employees based on their grades.
Additionally, Governor Adeleke approved the continued payment of palliatives for civil servants until the new minimum wage begins. All ministries, departments, agencies, and local governments have been directed to comply with this new schedule and arrangement.
