In a press release issued today, it has been reported that the Department of State Services (DSS) has blocked Mazi Nnamdi Kanu's legal team from meeting with him at their detention facility, violating existing court orders and constitutional provisions. According to Aloy Ejimakor, Esq., who signed the release on behalf of the legal team, the DSS appears to have canceled all future visitations to Kanu as an act of retaliation.
The statement suggests that this move comes after Kanu allegedly caused "embarrassment" to Justice Binta Nyako, leading to her withdrawal from his case. As a result, the DSS, on behalf of the Nigerian federal government, has now completely isolated Kanu from his legal representation, effectively enforcing solitary confinement.
Ejimakor expressed concern over the situation, stating uncertainty about when, or if, the legal team will be able to see Kanu again. This development raises serious concerns about the legality and human rights implications of Kanu's continued detention and access to legal counsel.
Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has been detained by Nigerian authorities for his ongoing trial on charges including treason and terrorism.
