CAF Delists Nigeria vs Libya AFCON Qualifier Amid Controversy

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has removed the second-leg fixture of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier between Nigeria and Libya from its official schedule. The match was initially slated for Tuesday, following Nigeria’s 1-0 victory in the first leg at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium, Uyo, on Friday.

The Nigerian Football Federation (NFF), along with the Super Eagles and team officials, recounted their difficult experience at a Libyan airport, where they reportedly faced over 14 hours of delays and humiliation. This led the Nigerian team to abandon their trip and return home, raising concerns about the conduct of Libyan authorities.

CAF confirmed that it is launching an investigation into the situation, aiming to understand the events that led to the Nigerian team's ordeal. Meanwhile, the Libyan Football Federation has accused Nigeria of sabotage and has threatened legal action in response to the situation.

In a social media update, CAF listed the AFCON qualifier matches scheduled for Tuesday but notably excluded the Nigeria vs Libya game, signaling the ongoing controversy surrounding the fixture. The Super Eagles' next steps remain uncertain as the investigation continues.
