The Enugu State Police Command has concluded the orderly room trial of Police Inspector Ozonwanji Joseph, who was implicated in the death of popular Ogene musician, Chikezie Okezie Nwamba. According to the command’s spokesperson, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, Inspector Joseph was found culpable and has received the maximum penalty of dismissal, followed by prosecution under the Police Act and Regulations 2020.
In a statement, Ndukwe disclosed that the Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Zone 13, approved the recommendations for Joseph’s dismissal and prosecution. The former officer was arraigned at the Enugu East Magistrate Court on October 28, 2024, for the charge of murder. The Chief Magistrate ordered his remand at the Enugu Correctional Custodial Centre and directed that the case file be forwarded to the Attorney General of Enugu State for further legal review. The court has scheduled the next hearing for November 12, 2024.
Expressing condolences to the family, friends, and associates of the late musician, Enugu State Commissioner of Police, CP Kanayo Uzuegbu, extended his appreciation to the community for their patience and cooperation. He affirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to maintaining high disciplinary standards, assuring the public that the Command would hold officers accountable for any misconduct.
