On Tuesday, October 8, the Lebanese militant group Hezbollah announced that it had fired a series of rockets at the Israeli city of Haifa, following an earlier attack on the city the previous day, marking the first time in 18 years that Haifa was targeted.
Hezbollah, which is supported by Iran, stated that it executed a "large rocket salvo" aimed at Haifa and its northern suburbs. In response, the Israeli military reported that over 100 rockets were fired from Lebanon into Israel, with some of these projectiles being intercepted by air defense systems.
This escalation comes as Israel has intensified its ground invasion of southern Lebanon. Israeli forces have reportedly begun ground operations in southwestern Lebanon, shifting their focus from the eastern side of the border where they had previously concentrated their efforts. The ground offensive, which began on September 30, is aimed at targeting Hezbollah installations.
The ongoing conflict has had a devastating toll, with around 2,000 Lebanese casualties reported since Hezbollah commenced its rocket attacks on Israel a year ago, aligning its actions with Hamas amid rising tensions in the region.
