In her new memoir, Melania, former First Lady Melania Trump reminisces about her first encounter with Donald Trump, which took place during a Fashion Week party in 1998. The memoir, released on October 8, reveals that Melania met Donald while she was attending the event with a friend.
According to Melania, Donald arrived at the party accompanied by another "attractive blonde" woman. "I saw my friend wave at someone behind me, and when I turned around, I noticed a man and a blonde woman approaching us," Melania recalls in the memoir.
When Donald introduced himself, he simply said, "Hi, I’m Donald Trump," to which Melania replied, "Nice to meet you." Although she recognized his name, Melania admitted that she knew little about him at the time, aside from the fact that he was a prominent businessman or celebrity.
Their initial interaction was brief but left a strong impression on her. She describes how Donald, despite being on a date, quickly turned his focus to her, engaging in a conversation about her life in New York, her Slovenian heritage, and her travels. "There was so much activity around us, but his attention made me feel like the center of his world," she wrote.
During a brief moment when Donald’s date stepped away, he asked for Melania’s phone number. However, instead of giving him hers, she cleverly responded, "Give me your number." Donald agreed, with a promise that she would call him. He then discreetly handed her his business card, setting the stage for the relationship that followed.
The couple began dating, on and off, before marrying in 2005. They later welcomed their son, Barron, in 2006. Melania fondly reflects on their early days together, filled with nights at the theater, sports games, and other shared experiences.
Her memoir offers a personal glimpse into the beginnings of her relationship with Donald Trump and the moments that shaped their life together.
