Minister of Defence, Matawalle, Condemns Amaechi's Remarks on Protests, Calls for Caution

Dr. Bello Muhammed Matawalle, Nigeria's Minister of State for Defence, has sharply criticized recent statements made by former Minister of Transport, Rotimi Amaechi, accusing him of inciting unrest and encouraging Nigerians to protest against the hardships in the country.

In a statement released by the Ministry of Defence’s Director of Information, Henshaw Ogubike, Matawalle warned Amaechi to refrain from making inflammatory remarks that could undermine national stability.

“It is reckless and irresponsible for a former public servant of Amaechi’s standing to incite Nigerians against their own government,” Matawalle said, expressing deep concern over the potential dangers posed by such rhetoric. He emphasized that these remarks come at a time when President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is working diligently to tackle the country's challenges through a series of reforms that are already showing positive outcomes.

Matawalle condemned Amaechi's comments as politically motivated, accusing him of exploiting the genuine struggles of citizens for selfish gains. “It is absurd, preposterous, and shameful for anyone to take advantage of the situation for personal political benefit,” he added.

Reaffirming the government's commitment to maintaining peace and security, the Defence Minister warned that any efforts to incite violence or destabilize the nation would not be tolerated. “We will not allow anyone to fuel violence or manipulate the challenges facing our people. This serves as a final warning to Amaechi and his associates,” Matawalle declared.

The minister also urged Amaechi to support the government's efforts to move the country forward, rather than making “short-sighted assertions” that could hinder progress.
