Nyesom Wike: No Apologies for Opposing PDP's Presidential Bid in 2023

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has made it clear that he has no regrets about opposing the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 presidential election. Wike, who was a key figure in the party, stated that his decision was based on his principles of fairness, equity, and justice.

Speaking on Channels TV’s Politics Today, Wike explained that he could not support the PDP in the presidential race because the party had disregarded these values. He emphasized that his stance was firm and unapologetic.

“I don’t believe in injustice and preventing others from having their chance. That’s why I didn’t support the PDP in the presidential election. I have no apologies to offer for that decision,” Wike said.

Despite his stance at the national level, the former Rivers State governor mentioned that he continued to support the PDP in other elections, helping the party secure victories in the governorship and National Assembly contests within his state.

Wike also addressed rumors about his ties to Tony Okocha, the ousted chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State. He clarified that, although Okocha is a friend, he did not bring him into the APC, and in fact, Okocha had opposed him during the governorship election.

Wike’s comments further highlight his unwavering commitment to what he sees as justice in Nigerian politics, as well as his refusal to compromise on those values, even when it involves his own party.
