Panel Dismisses Allegation That Bobrisky Served Jail Term in Private Apartment

The investigative panel established by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, to examine claims that popular cross-dresser Idris Okuneye, also known as Bobrisky, served his six-month jail sentence in a private apartment instead of a custodial center, has dismissed the allegation.

Uju Agomoh, Executive Director of Prisoners' Rehabilitation and Welfare Action (PRAWA) and a panel member, confirmed that there was no evidence to support the claim that Bobrisky stayed outside the prison during his imprisonment, which lasted from April 12, 2024, to August 5, 2024.

In a statement quoted by Vanguard, Agomoh said, “The panel did not find any evidence thus far that suggested Mr. Okuneye slept outside the custodial center during the period of his imprisonment.”

She clarified that Bobrisky served his sentence with the standard remission applied to such cases, meaning he was eligible for a reduction in his sentence. However, she did acknowledge that he received certain privileges during his time in custody, but no proof was found to suggest that he was housed outside the prison facility.

The Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, launched the panel on September 30 in Abuja after an audio recording by social critic Very Dark Man (VDM) surfaced, in which Bobrisky allegedly claimed to have served his jail term in a private flat near the prison.

This ruling by the panel seems to put an end to the speculation surrounding Bobrisky's imprisonment, confirming that he indeed completed his sentence in a government facility.
