Jennifer Lopez, 55, recently spoke about her experience being single following her split from Ben Affleck, addressing the end of their relationship for the first time. In an interview with Interview magazine on Wednesday, October 9, Lopez shared her thoughts on independence, self-discovery, and personal growth two years after tying the knot with the actor, 52.
Lopez expressed excitement about exploring life on her own, asking, "What can I do when it’s just me flying on my own? What if I’m just free?” Reflecting on her journey, she admitted that navigating this new phase is “lonely, unfamiliar, scary,” but emphasized that it doesn’t define her.
In a candid conversation with comedian Nikki Glaser, the Grammy-nominated star stressed the importance of finding happiness within oneself. “When you sit in those feelings and realize, ‘These things are not going to kill me,’ it’s like, ‘Actually, I am capable of joy and happiness all by myself,'” she explained.
Lopez, known for her romantic nature, acknowledged her love for relationships and the desire to grow old with someone. However, she pointed out that society often pushes the belief that being in a relationship is essential for happiness. "We think, ‘I have to have that to be whole and happy.’ And you don’t,” she remarked.
The actress and singer, who was previously married to Ojani Noa, Cris Judd, and Marc Anthony before eloping with Affleck in Las Vegas in 2022, looked back at her past choices with humor. She referred to her younger self as a “dumb” and a “motherf**ker” for feeling the need to have a partner to feel fulfilled.
Now, Lopez firmly believes that her relationship with herself is the "most important thing," adding that, "We tend to get away from that when we’re wrapped up with other people."
