An Inspector with the Anti-Cultism Tactical Squad in Enugu State has been arrested following the alleged fatal shooting of Okezie Chikezie Mba, a well-known traditional Ogene musician popularly known as Igbo-Jah. The incident reportedly took place around 8 p.m. on October 25, 2024, at the Tactical Squad's headquarters.
According to DSP Daniel Ndukwe, spokesperson for the Enugu State Police Command, Mba was leaving the headquarters after a friendly visit when, under circumstances still under investigation, the officer fired his rifle, striking the musician. Mba was rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors confirmed his death. His remains have been placed in the mortuary pending an autopsy.
Enugu State’s Commissioner of Police, CP Kanayo Uzuegbu, has directed a thorough investigation by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State CID. The commissioner assured the public that the responsible officer, along with any others found involved, will face appropriate legal consequences as a deterrent.
