Ayorinde AdeBello, one of the pastors suspended by the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) following allegations of homosexual conduct with young members, has publicly denied the accusations. The RCCG national overseer, Sunday Akande, announced the suspension of AdeBello and Deacon Oke Mayowa in a letter dated October 28, 2024, emphasizing that the church does not condone any form of homosexual behavior. An investigation is being conducted by RCCG’s administration to review the claims.
AdeBello took to Instagram to reject the allegations, clarifying that he has "never engaged in any sexual activities with male teenagers." He shared that a viral WhatsApp conversation had been misinterpreted, explaining that the discussion was intended as an educational session about male reproductive health and self-esteem for a teenage group within the church.
In his post, titled My Response to the Allegations of Sodomising Teenagers, AdeBello expressed disappointment that his comments were twisted to imply inappropriate conduct. He revealed that he initially refrained from responding publicly due to the possibility of others being implicated to garner engagement on social media.
"These baseless claims have reached a criminal level, and I must clarify my stance as silence has been misinterpreted as guilt," AdeBello wrote. He firmly stated that he has "NEVER requested or engaged in any sexual act as a form of reward or favor." He clarified that discussions around reproductive health within the WhatsApp group were strictly informational, covering topics such as proper hygiene and the importance of self-esteem.
AdeBello emphasized that his comments were taken out of context, intended only to help teenagers understand their bodies and encourage confidence. "It is deeply painful that these words have been distorted to paint me as someone I am not,” he concluded.
RCCG officials await the findings of the ongoing investigation to address the claims against AdeBello and Mayowa.
