Hamas Reacts to Donald Trump’s Victory in 2024 U.S. Presidential Election

Following Donald Trump’s victory in the 2024 U.S. presidential election, Hamas has released a statement urging the incoming administration to actively pursue peace efforts in the region. The militant group expressed a desire for Trump’s team to push for an end to the ongoing conflict, particularly in Gaza and the West Bank, where hostilities have escalated.

According to Fox News, Trump reportedly asked Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to resolve the conflict before his January 20 inauguration. Responding to this, Hamas acknowledged "the voices raised by the U.S. public for over a year regarding Zionist actions in Gaza."

The group’s statement further called for the U.S. to halt support for Israeli operations affecting Palestinians and Lebanese civilians, asserting that Palestinians “will continue to resist the Zionist occupation” until their rights to “freedom, independence, and an autonomous state with Jerusalem as its capital” are fully recognized.

Hamas Political Bureau spokesperson Basem Naim echoed these sentiments in an interview with Newsweek, urging the U.S. to reconsider its policy of supporting Israel. “The election of Trump as the 47th president is an American matter,” he stated, “but Palestinians hope for an immediate end to aggression, especially in Gaza, and support in achieving our rightful aspirations for independence.”

With Trump’s administration taking office in January, the international community will be watching closely to see how his approach might influence the longstanding tensions in the region.
