Neymar's Future at Al-Hilal in Doubt Due to Persistent Injury Setbacks

Brazilian football star Neymar may face an early exit from Al-Hilal in January as the Saudi Pro League club reportedly considers terminating his contract due to ongoing injury challenges. The 32-year-old forward, who joined Al-Hilal in a record deal in 2023, has been plagued by injuries, including a recent setback just 29 minutes into his appearance as a substitute in Al-Hilal’s Asian Champions League win against Esteghlal. This marked his return after a lengthy recovery from an ACL tear he sustained in his left knee last October while playing for Brazil.

While Neymar attempted to downplay his latest injury as a thigh cramp, Brazilian reports indicate he may face at least three more weeks on the sidelines. Brazilian outlet UOL has reported that Al-Hilal is now considering a potential mutual termination of his contract in January, allowing the club to free up his substantial salary and offer head coach Jorge Jesus more flexibility within the squad. Neymar’s contract, worth £130 million per year, is set to expire at the end of this season.

Al-Hilal’s foreign player limit under Saudi Pro League regulations is another factor complicating Neymar’s future. The club currently has eight international players over the age of 21, the maximum allowed. In Neymar's absence, the other seven foreign players have secured crucial roles in the team, raising further questions about the Brazilian’s position.

Should Al-Hilal choose to part ways with Neymar, he may have options for a return to Brazil, where he has been linked with a potential move back to Santos, the club where he first rose to prominence. Alternatively, speculation suggests he could reunite with former Barcelona teammates Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez at MLS club Inter Miami, forming a trio that fans fondly remember.

Neymar has made only seven competitive appearances for Al-Hilal, scoring one goal and providing three assists, leaving the club questioning the long-term value of their major investment.
