Spanish Olympian Ana Peleteiro Opens Up About Abuse and Rape Ordeal in Past Relationship

Spanish triple jump champion Ana Peleteiro, 29, has courageously shared the harrowing details of her past abuse in a TikTok video, where she recounted the psychological and sexual abuse she endured at the hands of a former partner. The decorated athlete, currently married to French triple jumper Benjamin Compaore, revealed that she had suffered years of manipulation and repeated non-consensual encounters, experiences that left deep emotional scars.

Peleteiro, who is Spain’s national record holder in the triple jump and a gold medalist at the 2024 European Championships, participated in the viral TikTok trend 'y aun asi me quede' ("and yet I stayed"), which encourages women to share their stories of abuse to support others in similar situations. In her emotional video, Peleteiro described waking up to sexual encounters without consent, enduring psychological abuse, and being manipulated by her ex-partner into believing her suspicions were irrational.

She explained that her partner would frequently disappear, make excuses for his infidelities, and even manipulate her emotions by dismissing her concerns as "crazy." Peleteiro also revealed how her abuser’s infidelity was played against her, with her discovering letters from other women, which he claimed were from "obsessed" individuals. Despite these signs, Peleteiro said, “And yet I stayed.”

Peleteiro used her platform to encourage women who may be facing similar abuse to seek help. “You will never be happy in this situation,” she stated. “They are doing you a lot of harm. With help and support, you can leave and start a new, beautiful life.”

Her bravery in sharing her painful journey is a reminder of the importance of speaking out and seeking support when facing abuse, and her message resonated deeply with her followers.
