Brown Ideye, a key member of Nigeria's 2013 Africa Cup of Nations-winning team, has completed a move to Nigerian Premier Football League (NPFL) giants, Enyimba, for the remainder of the current season. The transfer deal was confirmed by Enyimba’s Sporting Director, Ifeanyi Ekwueme, who expressed his excitement about bringing the 36-year-old striker into the squad.
“We’ve been in discussions with him for several weeks, and we are thrilled that he has agreed to join us,” said Ekwueme. “Ideye is a legend, and we believe his experience will greatly bolster our attacking options as we compete in both the domestic league and continental competitions.”
Ideye, who has been without a club since departing Kuwaiti side Al Yarmouk in 2022, is returning to the Nigerian top flight after an absence of 17 years. His last domestic stint was with Ocean Boys in 2007, where he helped the team win the league and cup double. This move follows the recent trend of former Super Eagles players like Ahmed Musa and Abdullahi Shehu joining the Nigerian league, with both playing for Kano Pillars.
Enyimba hopes that Ideye will play a pivotal role in their upcoming matches, including a rescheduled NPFL game against Sunshine Stars and a CAF Confederation Cup clash with Black Bulls in Maputo, Mozambique.
