Trump Administration Conducts Nationwide Immigration Enforcement Operation

On Sunday, the Trump administration launched a large-scale immigration enforcement operation involving multiple federal agencies, resulting in the arrest of nearly 1,000 individuals, according to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

This initiative is part of a broader effort to expand immigration enforcement by utilizing various federal agencies granted extended authority under the administration.

ICE agents were joined by officials from multiple Justice Department agencies, targeting individuals they identified as public safety and national security threats. The operation is expected to continue throughout the week.

White House border policy advisor Tom Homan described Sunday’s enforcement actions in Chicago as a "significant step" and a "gamechanger" during an interview with CNN.

"President Trump has mobilized the entire government to address this issue," Homan stated. Among the agencies assisting ICE were the FBI, the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), and the U.S. Marshals Service.

Homan, who was present in Chicago, emphasized that the operation focused on criminal activities. Acting Deputy Attorney General Emil Bove also traveled to Chicago to observe the enforcement efforts.

Nationwide, ICE reported that 956 individuals were arrested and 554 detainers were issued, marking the highest total since the agency began reporting such figures on social media.

In addition to heightened operations in Chicago, similar immigration enforcement actions took place in Atlanta, Puerto Rico, Colorado, Los Angeles, and Austin, Texas.

Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson stated that local police were not involved in the operation and assured residents that his administration was working closely with city officials. He also urged community members to be aware of their constitutional rights.

Previous administrations, including President Biden's, have also prioritized public safety and national security in their immigration enforcement efforts.
