Three years after 7-year-old Troy Koehler was found dead inside a washing machine at his Texas home, his adoptive father, Jemaine Thomas, has been sentenced to 50 years in prison for the boy’s murder. Jemaine, 45, pleaded guilty and was sentenced on July 30, according to the Harris County District Attorney’s Office.
Troy’s former teacher, Sheryl Reed, delivered an emotional victim impact statement, remembering Troy as a joyful child who loved reading and always encouraged others.
Troy’s adoptive mother, Tiffany Thomas, 38, has also been charged with injury to a child. She pleaded guilty and is awaiting sentencing on September 10. An additional charge against her was dismissed.
The couple adopted Troy in 2019. On July 28, 2022, they reported him missing. Police discovered his lifeless body inside a top-loading washing machine in the family’s garage. Investigations revealed disturbing details, including threats made by the parents over snacks like doughnut sticks and oatmeal cream pies. Forensic analysis later confirmed Troy suffered both new and old injuries, and his death was ruled a homicide.
The case has left a lasting impact on the community, with many mourning the loss of a bright, kind-hearted child who deserved far better.
