“Global Health Experts Rebuke Trump’s Claim Linking Tylenol to Autism”

 Health experts worldwide are pushing back hard against the Trump administration’s shocking announcement that acetaminophen — better known as Tylenol or paracetamol — could cause autism if taken during pregnancy.

On Monday, Trump, alongside Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., claimed the FDA will begin warning doctors immediately about what he called a “very increased risk of autism” linked to acetaminophen use during pregnancy.

But global health authorities aren’t buying it. The European Medicines Agency quickly responded, saying there’s “no new evidence” to justify changing current guidelines. Their chief medical officer stressed that paracetamol is still considered a safe and important option for pregnant women dealing with pain or fever. She reminded the public of his infamous 2020 suggestion about injecting bleach for COVID, warning that this latest attack on paracetamol follows the same dangerous pattern of denialism.

Meanwhile, the World Health Organization said evidence connecting acetaminophen to autism remains inconsistent, while a massive Swedish study that tracked 2.5 million children over 25 years found no increased risk of neurodevelopmental disorders.

In the U.S., leading organizations like the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and the Autism Science Foundation also shot down Trump’s claims, saying the science is “limited, conflicting, and inconsistent.” Manufacturers, too, emphasized that acetaminophen’s safety profile is backed by decades of research and real-world use.

At the end of the day, the consensus is clear: experts worldwide agree paracetamol is safe during pregnancy. Trump’s words may stir fear, but health authorities are unified — the science simply does not support his claims.
