A Sabo-Yaba Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos has ordered the remand of Daniel Okoh, a 23-year-old man, after he pleaded guilty to stealing items worth N880,000 at Morning Side Hotel, Victoria Island.
Okoh, whose residential address was not disclosed, admitted to charges of conspiracy and theft. The Prosecutor, Inspector Chekwube Okeh, informed the court that Okoh, along with an accomplice who is still at large, committed the theft on June 28 at Morning Side Hotel.
According to Inspector Okeh, Okoh and his accomplice unlawfully entered the hotel premises and stole a bottle of Rémy Martin, a bottle of Martell, and five mobile phones, totaling N880,000 in value. Okoh was apprehended after being captured on CCTV attempting to flee to another building, while his accomplice escaped with the stolen goods.
The prosecutor stated that the charges against Okoh violate Sections 287 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015. Section 287 prescribes a three-year imprisonment for theft, and Section 411 carries a two-year imprisonment for conspiracy.
Magistrate Linda Balogun ordered Okoh's remand until August 9, when a review of the case and sentencing will take place.
