The All Progressives Congress (APC) has come out in defense of President Bola Tinubu, asserting that he has been equitable in his approach to key appointments across the country despite accusations of nepotism from some quarters.
Felix Morka, the APC spokesman, made this assertion during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today. He dismissed claims by certain Northern critics who accused Tinubu’s administration of favoritism in appointments, emphasizing that the President has demonstrated a commitment to fairness.
“President Tinubu is trying to be fair. We have seen fairness in the key offices,” Morka stated, addressing concerns over the distribution of appointments under Tinubu's leadership.
He also urged detractors to withhold judgment prematurely, noting that Tinubu’s administration has only been in office for one year and has yet to fully utilize opportunities for appointments across various sectors.
“This government has just completed one year in office, and there are still many vacancies to be filled. There is more to come,” Morka affirmed, hinting at upcoming appointments that will further reflect Tinubu’s commitment to inclusivity.
Highlighting specific examples, Morka pointed out the diversity in appointments such as the Minister of Defence being predominantly staffed by individuals from the northern region, while the Minister of Finance and the Governor of the Central Bank hail from the southern part of the country.
He emphasized that any allegations of ethnic bias should be considered within the context of the President’s duty to represent the entire nation as enshrined in the Federal Character principle of the constitution.
“The President’s constituency is the entire country, not just a specific region. He is the President of Nigeria, and every part of the country deserves effective representation,” Morka stated.
In conclusion, Morka urged stakeholders and critics to await further appointments and refrain from premature assessments, reaffirming Tinubu’s commitment to upholding the principles of fairness and equitable representation in governance.
As debates on governmental appointments continue, observers will be watching closely to see how Tinubu’s administration navigates these challenges while maintaining national unity and cohesion.
