The Nigerian Presidency has alerted the public to a fraudulent broadcast that has been circulating, falsely attributed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. In a statement released on Saturday, Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, urged Nigerians to disregard the fake message.
Onanuga emphasized that the broadcast is a fabrication designed by individuals intent on creating confusion and unrest. He reassured the public that President Tinubu has not made any such statements.
The fraudulent broadcast allegedly claimed that President Tinubu had announced a 50% reduction in his salary and other emoluments and urged senior government officials to follow his lead. It also purportedly stated that the President would abolish the Office of the First Lady and sell off several presidential aircraft to cut costs.
In addition, the fake broadcast included several other drastic measures such as consolidating government ministries, restoring fuel and electricity subsidies, mandating the use of locally manufactured products, and halting foreign medical treatments for government officials.
The fabricated message concluded with an appeal to the youth planning protests under the #EndBadGovernment banner, asking them to give the government a chance to implement reforms.
Onanuga strongly denounced the broadcast, describing it as a deliberate attempt to mislead and disrupt. He reaffirmed that President Tinubu has not issued any such declarations, and the public should remain vigilant against such misinformation.
