The tragic death of British singer Liam Payne, who fell from the balcony of a luxury hotel in Buenos Aires, is currently being treated as "inconclusive" by Argentine authorities. Police and prosecutors are still investigating the circumstances surrounding the 31-year-old former One Direction star's fatal fall from the third floor of the Casa Sur Hotel last Wednesday.
A post-mortem examination confirmed that Payne died from multiple injuries sustained during the fall. However, lead investigator Prosecutor Marcelo Roma has requested additional histopathological, biochemical, and toxicological tests to determine whether drugs or intoxication may have been factors in the incident. The results of these tests are expected to take 10 to 15 days.
In the meantime, Argentina’s National Criminal and Correctional Prosecutor’s Office is handling Payne's death as inconclusive. His father, Geoff Payne, has traveled to Buenos Aires to identify his son’s body and make arrangements for its repatriation to the UK, where the funeral is expected to take place in November.
This tragic news follows revelations that Payne had been quietly dropped by his record label, Universal Music. According to sources, Payne’s second album was put on hold, and there were disagreements over the direction of his music. Label executives reportedly felt that the music Payne wanted to create would not appeal to his existing One Direction fanbase. The decision to cut ties with Payne was also influenced by budget cuts and negative online attention.
An insider told Daily Mail, “Liam wanted to make music he enjoyed, but his label believed it wouldn’t win over his 1D fans. There were also jokes and memes circulating online about him, which his team viewed as a reason to part ways.” Despite the separation from his label, Payne was financially stable, but sources say the pressure to compete with his former bandmates took a toll on him.
As investigations continue, Payne’s family, friends, and fans await further details surrounding his untimely passing.
