Christian Coleman Breaks Silence on Sha’Carri Richardson’s Arrest: 'She Shouldn’t Have Been Taken In

American sprinter Christian Coleman has spoken out in support of his girlfriend, Sha’Carri Richardson, following her recent arrest for domestic violence at Seattle–Tacoma International Airport. Richardson, 25, was booked on fourth-degree domestic violence assault charges on July 27 after allegedly shoving Coleman into a wall, yanking his backpack, and throwing an item at him—possibly headphones. Despite this, Coleman did not press charges and emphasized that he doesn’t believe she should’ve been arrested.

In a candid interview at the 2025 USATF Outdoor Championships, Coleman described the situation as “sucky” and criticized the negative narratives surrounding Richardson. He acknowledged that both he and Richardson, whom he called “one of one,” have personal struggles but also praised her as a “great human being” and the “greatest female athlete in the world.”

Richardson, who previously made headlines for a positive marijuana test in 2021 and being removed from a flight in 2023, has not publicly commented on the incident. She narrowly missed qualifying for the 200-meter final at the U.S. championships but will compete in the upcoming world championships as the defending 100-meter champion.

USA Track and Field has declined to comment on the matter.
